So to start off, work has been stressful the last few weeks. One of the employees, the girl who was pregnant, has to be taken in for emergency surgery to remove a growth from her ovary. It turns out she was not pregnant; it was a false pregnancy because of the growth. She was off for a week which means that I had to cover some of her shifts. Then a girl quit because she got a new job so that means I had to cover some of her shifts. To make a long story short, I went from having three days off this week to have one. I am just exhausted and my back is in pain.
For those of you who don’t know, I am a huge Rise Against fan. I got into them a few summers ago because a guy I was seeing was into them. The music just made a connection with me even though the relationship with the guy ended in heart break. Anywho, their new CD, “The Black Market,” came out Tuesday so I bought it today. I must say, I am hugely disappointed; I enjoy a few songs but the others just seem like...radio music. I don’t know what happened between “Endgame” and now but it needs to change. Some of the songs are growing on me though.
Today, my mum and I went to this sidewalk sale that my town holds every year. It gets more and more lame every year. I did end up getting an adorable infinity scarf with owls on it (I like owls). It was funny because we were walking down the street, this banjo music was playing and my mum says, “It’s like Ozark music... “Deliverance”.” I laughed so hard because it’s kind of true. We had dinner out tonight. I drank alcohol out of a fishbowl (literal and a huge mistake) and had poutine. For those who don’t know what poutine is (I feel sorry for you), it is French fries covered in gravy and cheese curds; it is the best thing ever invented and it is the only food that is totally Canadian.
As for “Rebellion of the Commons,” I have been working on it off and on but I love what I have so far which is great. It makes a huge difference when you yourself love the artwork and was unhappy with the original’s art work for some time. It also gives me a chance to revise some of the things I disliked in the original; mainly, I am trying to revise back stories so no character is inherently evil. I also think I can bring back a character I originally cut out: an Arctic fox named Dart who was suppose to be a spy for Anarchy.
I was also having a small depression and crisis this week (after I met a girl I had gone to high school with) which sent me on a job search since I am truly sick of working at Subway while I have an Honours BA in Environmental Governance. In this search, I actually was invited to chat, at my convenience, with the head of environmental management at the military base in my town. I am super excited to visit him when I get a day off because, even though he is not hiring at the moment, he said that he would give me some places to apply to. I think the pieces are starting to fall into place.
I am happier than I have been in a long time. I am still slightly depressed, disenfranchised, and feel like I wasted four years of my life but I was a lot happier than I have been the last few weeks. I think I will get back on my feet again soon and I will be living my life to the fullest. I want to find a job in my field, finish “Rebellion of the Commons,” and go back to making plushies (poor Princess Luna sits unfinished every day).

My dog passed away Sunday
My chihuahua, Pugsley, passed away Sunday morning at home just before 9:30am. He had been in heart failure for three years and due to a declining quality of life we had made the difficult decision Friday evening to euthanize him on Monday when his vet's office opened. On Sunday morning, he woke me up with gasping and laboured breaths. We immediately called the emergency vet and he could not be seen until noon. While we waited to take him in, he went into his coop and fell asleep. When we checked on him, he was gone. He was 11 years old and we had him since he was a puppy. Pugs lived like a king and we did all we could to make sure he was well cared for. We miss him dearly. I still see him waddling around the house. If I am slow or unresponsive, please understand that I am in mourning and will reply as soon as I can.
NAFTA and Dairy Concessions
I know I haven’t updated my journal in a year and I need to change that. However, the reason why I am writing tonight is because I am mad...actually, I am beyond mad...I am furious. With the news of a NAFTA deal being met has also brought news that my government has made concessions to the dairy industry.
For those of you who do not know, Canada is highly protective of its dairy industry and has something called supply management. Supply management basically means that government controls the amount of dairy that is produced to rig the price; it also puts high tariffs on foreign dairy. By rigging the price, it ensures that farmers get
Vacation! Woot!
I'm off to Prince Edward Island again tonight! I am beyond excited! With everything that has gone on this year with Pugs and with my brother, it will be nice to get away for a week. I honestly just need a break from the craziness at work and the impending craziness at home that we can all feel coming. I hope I have a great vacation! I will be back August 20th.
Home Preview
So this is a preview of my newest project called "Home." It is a combination of a graphic novel and a traditional novel. The hope is to have "Home" running beside a spin off novel. I am hoping to releases this before the end of the year and I am hoping to start working on "Rebellion of the Commons" once again. "Rebellion of the Commons" still has some issues and I will address that in a later journal.
Anyway, here is the Prologue from "Home" without the graphic portion of the project. I am hoping for some feedback, good or bad. I just want to know what you honestly think.

It happened so suddenly, they didn’t see it
